I'm not often over-excited, as I'm known to take things easily – but I can tell you that I have lots of internal joyful moments lately.
While writing this, there are a few more days ahead before I'm attending the Venice Biennale, and straight after that I'm heading to the Florence Biennale, which is about three hours' drive from Venice. Only these two biennales have overlapping dates... Venice is being held from 11th to 19th October and the Florence biennale happens from 18th to 26th October. Oops! In my enthusiasm I was just a little confused with the dates, but I think I will manage.
At the biennales I get to show my work in shapes that are related to slime... yes, slime. You'll find posts about it on my social media, where I explain myself better around this very topic.
In November, two more equally amazing events are taking place. The first will be an exhibition named 'Living Trace', at Cluster Contemporary Jewellery in London, on 21-23 November, by the same organisers and thus related to last year's exhibition. I was over the moon when the curator reached out to me many months ago to attend as this time it would be an even more selective group. For this project I'm dealing with my personal memories, but also how I see the future, and I couldn't be happier to be asked to express myself even stronger through the medium of jewellery. You should know that I'm always thinking…
Then there is Bildhalle, Amsterdam on the 29th of November! Because after all these amazing events above, it doesn't stop. I'll be presenting my work at an exclusive event at photo gallery Bildhalle, with locations in Zurich and Amsterdam.
You know how much I love photography – I've mentioned it here a few times, and that's why the event at Bildhalle feels so natural and logical, being surrounded with beautiful photography by fellow artists. Even though I live in Switzerland now, we have chosen to show my work in Amsterdam, a city where I lived for a long time and where I spent countless hours visiting photography museums and galleries, before Bildhalle.
All photos here are taken by me. The first is a simple snapshot with my i-phone, because I can't help but to see everything. Next up is done with my camera, in Croatia, where we went this September. The last photo was shot in my garage, as I wanted something a little more grungy, after all the many glamorous photos that were taken.
All happened after a friend of mine, Marjolein, who's based in the Netherlands, thought it would be an amazing match for my jewellery to be shown at this gallery. When we were looking at dates, it turns out the nature-inspired art of Dutch photographer Paul Cupido will then adorn the gallery's walls. How beautiful that things can happen through friendship or coincidence. It truly warms my heart.
So, please mark Saturday 29th November in your calendars, because that will be the day that I'm at BILDHALLE, Amsterdam!
Do write me a message if you like to attend, so we can put you on the list.
RSVP a.s.a.p., until mid-November. Newsletter subscribers receive priority access and more.
I love the excitement that events and exhibitions bring to the community! And an exclusive gathering held for the right crowd is truly magical. I remember the many exhibitions I went to in Amsterdam, London and Rome and of course around the world. Since I'm a maker, I have less time to attend many of them, but now I get to be part of one myself.
More photos from Croatia, together with Tessa on each sides, and in the centre you'll find another photo from my garage. ;)
This gallery is focused on photography and photo-based art that at the same time is open enough to show artistic jewellery, which is just amazing. The owner Mirjam Cavegn founded Bildhalle in 2013 in Zurich, and opened a second location in Amsterdam in 2020, (at Singel 272) where Christiane Hoefert is the gallery director.
How exciting that they also present their artists' work at major international art fairs, including Photo London, Paris Photo, Art Miami, and PAN Amsterdam.
Contemporary jewellery exhibitions are essential for my work to be accepted in the jewellery art field, but showing at a renowned photography gallery like Bildhalle is equally exciting. And I can't wait to meet new people and connect with my audience on 29th November.
Some work by the amazing photographer Paul Cupido, who's work you can admire too.
In Cupido’s words -
"I was born on a small island where nature and the elements reign. When I was a child, the local population still largely lived a subsistence lifestyle based on what nature had to offer, both in terms of indigenous food production and gathering, as well as collecting the things that have washed ashore. Our way of life is strongly defined by the cycle and rhythm of the seasons, the movement of the tides, the phases of the moon.
My experience and my memory of life on the island (I moved away long ago) have been supplemented with the notion drawn from quantum physics that nothing is solid, strengthening my belief that we as humans are intricately interwoven with natural phenomena, rather than being detached from nature.
An important aspect of my work is what I call layers of memories – think of your happy-go-lucky childhood, awakening adolescence, friendships and first loves, mistakes, growth, and ultimately passing on. Life events leave traces in our memories that also fade and often disappear. Sustaining and (re)building a relationship with nature can offer consolation for the inevitable transience of life. I want to make vulnerability and consolation recognisable."
