Power of Gold
"Power of Gold" ... This brooch is inspired by a tree trunk, once washed ashore on a lake after a violent storm. Sheila was moved by its form that was once cut down by humans resulting in a strong and rooted form, polished by the relentless force of water. To her, it symbolised resilience and the essential connection between humanity and nature. The shape of the brooch mirrors the tree trunk, highlighting the vital role wood has played in human progress—building homes, structures, and advancing societies over millennia. The wire structure on top represents the power that gold comes with, a symbol of economic power, the pro's and the cons. Together, they reflect two forces that sustain us: the life-giving essence of nature and the driving force of economies. The base of the brooch is made of deer parchment.
