Alle Vögel Sind Noch Da... This piece was born from a much cherished porcelain bowl with a bird design, the kind of thing that can upset anyone when it breaks. Sheila was thinking of Kintsugi art, which she encountered in Japan in 2004, where one repairs a bowl with gold, for it to become a new piece with a deeper meaning.
She chose a German title, as she lives in the Swiss Alps now and speaks German - it sounds much stronger than 'All the Birds Are Still Here'. Her awareness about the world around us is something she deals with daily, and while birds struggle against modern farming's chemical warfare, to be eaten by insects and so on... She wanted this fragment to become something even more meaningful, the story of our interconnected existence: no birds means so much, as finally it will have an impact on us all.
