genesis
Ring "Genesis".... With this ring, Sheila Westera asked herself the question, how we as human beings deal with the near future, and that of technology and Ai. Her conclusion was that we should not fear the future but learn to embrace her, as over the last centuries we had many inventions, that were feared, yet we all came to adapt and embrace them in the end. This square shape relates to a more futuristic design, yet, it is laced with vintage things, as wool and plastic neon flowers, on dried moss, thinking that if we plant a seed, a new life will start to take place, making it more of a beginning than an ending. She believes that artists, artisans or craftspeople will always be valued. In an increasingly digital world, the human factor becomes more precious, not less. There's something about individual thought processes and handiwork that gives life deeper meaning—something that can't be digitised or automated. This is genesis—a reminder that as we move forward, we carry with us the irreplaceable value of the human mind, touch, and soul. The last jewel in a series of seven jewels, created for the "Living Trace" exhibition, at Cluster Contemporary Jewellery in London, 2025.
