Broken Pieces 1

"Broken Pieces 1" ... a ring created around the bottom part of a small milk jug.

With this series, Sheila Westera likes to emphasise that we live in a throw-away society... There is beauty in many things and in the Japanese culture they nurture this. A culture in where they can see beauty in broken porcelain or earthenware. Kintsugi, is a Japanese method to repair broken bowls with the philosophy to recognise the history of an object and to visibly incorporate the repair into a new piece.

And Sheila used this filosofie to repair and transform a broken object that carried memories, and gave it new meaning as a jewel.
